I would recommend Tao for a group of people who wanted a fun, hip place to go for good food before going out clubbing! Ps I discovered this restaurant is also on the film "Hitch", in the speed dating scene. The dishes had some good asian flavours and I didn't find anything too spicy! The waiters were nice enough it was very busy though so you did get the feeling you were being rushed. I definitely recommend you order a good variety of plates to share. The food was very nice, not amazing but as good as I had anticipated. I thought it was a great vibe for anyone wanting to head out after! Maybe not a place I would recommend for a couple on a date as you have to shout to hear one another. Was a great people-watching seat! The place was absolutely packed with really loud music playing. Our table was on the first floor, on the mezzanine, overlooking the eye-catching Buddha. (SATC fans, don't expect to see the same fabulous restrooms though) Our reservation was for 9pm, we were slightly early so had to wait in the bar area with a buzzer for a few minutes before we were escorted to our table. I had booked this restaurant as it was featured in the Sex And The City series. I went to Tao on a Saturday night with my boyfriend. How can this place still be open? Someone in there needs to get a grip on things, or some people need to be fired because someone isn't doing their job properly, I don't think anyone cares there full, so what if they irritate a few people, but one day they will!!! We left just after 10pm, angry, upset and very hungry.never again!!! To cap it all when they eventually said we could have a table, (what happened to my booking) they said the table for our party of four would be ready soon, thats when we had enough, we had booked for six people, the manager apologised, said there was nothing he could do, dessert would be on the house, where were our other two guests going to eat there's.

Tao is supposed to be one of the places to go when in NYC, I have been there before and as this was my birthday weekend I thought it would be a great place to go with friends who travelled with us from the UK and hadn't been to NY before, booked a table weeks before departure, which was confirmed, called the restaurant before departure, table confirmed, restaurant called us that afternoon while in NY to confirm, we arrived on time at 8.30 to be met with a crowd of people blocking the door and desk, we couldn't get in, when we did we were asked if our party of six were all there, which we were, we were told the table would be fifteen minutes, could we wait at the bar, the fight to get into the bar would be enough to put most people off even staying, but after waiting one and a half hours our table still wasn't ready! The excuses ranged from they are just finishing, to they are just paying, meanwhile one of our party spent most of this time in and out of a line of other irritated customers waiting to find out about their table, I heard one person arguing that he had been waiting since 7.30 and why wasn't his table ready yet, this was at 8.45 we should walked out there and then, absolutely shambolic and a disgraceful way to treat your customers.
